Quick Overview

This rustic carving is made from local yellow pine of the Sierra Madre Occidental. The mask will add a touch of rugged sophistication to any space. Each piece is individually carved using only simple hand tools.

Tarahumara use ceremonial masks for religious rituals and ceremonies. It is believed that during the ritual the wearer of the mask actually becomes the figure the mask represents. Any attempt to hold the wearer accountable for his actions while wering the mask is frowned upon. In essence it is considered a case of misidentification and would be a wrongful accusation.
