Quick Overview

The Snake Deity, Kukulcan

Kukulkan also known as "The Plumed Serpent“ is the name of a Maya snake deity. This feathered serpent deity is also present in other cultures of Mesoamerica including the Aztecs and the even earlier Toltec culture who knew him as Quetzalcoatl.

Little is really known of the mythology of this pre-Columbian deity except that he was very important since he transcended many cultures of Mesoamerica.

The Maya of the Classic Period knew him as Waxaklahun Ubah Kan, the War Serpent. He has also been identified as the post classic version of the Vision Serpent of Classic Maya. The Vision Serpent acted as the conduit to connect the spiritual world to the physical world for shamans who wished to look into the future.
